An IT Developer is an expert in computer languages who translates a client’s request into lines of code. They design customised programmes. They write and follow specifications by listening to user needs, translating these needs and detailing possible technical solutions. To write a programme, developers use software packages such as C++, Python, or Java, and adapt them to the specific needs of the project.
They can work for different types of organisations: companies, public bodies, start-ups, or as freelancers.
Tasks
They analyse the client’s or user’s needs to understand the subtleties involved.
They draw up a set of specifications.
They develop, i.e. they write lines of code.
They carry out tests and then ensure the maintenance of the programme.
They write user guides and may train the users.
